2009 Year-End Review

Well it has been quite a roller coaster of a year.  It's the end of the decade!

So much has happened and 2009 has gone by faster than any year I can remember.  Ever since Bryan passed in March, everything has become a blur.  Great skating, great friends, tons of footage, and great memories for this year.

I put together a little edit of my personal favorite clips from the various park montages I've made this past year.  All the way back to January 1, 2009 (Clinton's tre flip lip run at OP was on new years day, and most of OP8 was filmed on that day as well).  This stuff doesn't include blog minutes-there was already a 'best of' for those, duh!

Enjoy and have a SAFE and happy New Year!  DON'T BE STUPID TONIGHT.

Topeka and Such

As I said in the previous post, there's a mix of Topeka footage in this montage.  Some from a hella cold day in late October I think, and the rest from the last warm day we had in November while filming Kevin's day in the life.  I threw some of the throwaway footage in there that we filmed on da streetz.

Enjoy you some J-cash.

Hard Drive Clean Up

I dug deep in the depths of my external to find some of this extra park footage that was collecting dust.  This stuff ranges from blog minute extras, park montage extras, so on etc.  Seeing some of this is making me stir crazy--the snow has outworn its welcome!!!

I also finished something from the last few times we went to Topeka.  One time being the first gnarly cold we had back in October, and the most recent time (the last fully warm day) in November when we filmed Kevin's Day in the Life (coming soon).  I'll put the Topeka stuff up tomorrow.

Driving InTEXTicated

So I'm driving home from the bank up Nieman from 135th on my lunch hour, and wonder why there is a firetruck and two cops parked on the grass. I see no accident. I look to my right and see this:

This was probably 200 yards from my house. Pretty sweet how she came in from the left and missed the trampoline. Don't text and drive when you're driving down a curvy road. Dumb bitch.

KC Indoor is Back??

....Well, almost.

A couple weeks ago we took about 3 days out of Cory's building schedule to break the park in. The park itself is done, but he has quite a bit of work to do to get up to code for the city building permits.

The park is epic--far surpasses the old KC Indoor. Kind of cold in there, as he's only heating the mini-ramp room and the upper viewing area, but if you're shredding, you won't be cold right?

Anyways, here's what came of those 3 days skating the park with Studio, Escapist, and other homies. (Watch for my tech-ness!)

BACK FOR GOOD!

Things have been crazy lately, and obviously I havent paid much attention to this as of late. But I'm back for good now.

You'll be able to find things on here that won't be on the Studio site, as well as things that are on the Studio site (but will have epic captions and stories).

So don't let go too fast, look out for more posts coming after the first of the year!

A Few Things

I had Dillon post the brand new Young Gunz montage today, you should check that out-dudes ripping!

Filmed a day in the life with Dewayne on Saturday for the GroupFly site, as well as the Studio site. That's done, and should be on grpfly.com and Studio pretty soon. Then on Sunday went to Topeka with the homies and bared the 40 degree temps to handle some shit. Filmed a small portion of clips at Mousetrap park, so look for that little tage here in a day or so.

Other than that, just keep checking RIDEFOUREVER.COM for updates that I can't post on here!

Special Edition Blog Minute-Josh White

For some reason, I never envisioned Josh as liking Grandview park as much as he does. The first time we talked about a blog minute, he was always calling out Blue Springs. However, Swoger also had been calling that one out for a while. So I think this may have been a compromise. In any event, we went back to GV four different times I think to finish this, each for different lines/areas of the park. Well worth it for sure-enjoy this special edition Josh-tage.

Back Again...

I've been getting a lot of "I check the blog every day and nothing is ever new! Wsup Brian!?"

Here's the skinny of it all.

Basically you should go to WWW.RIDEFOUREVER.COM.

I'm very limited to what I can post on Warmupspot now that the Studio website is up (hint hint-thats why everyone should straight up just go to RIDEFOUREVER.COM)

Now, everything I make may not end up on the website as fast as I'd like...but it's there regardless. Right now the team section has street clips up, and there will be several montages posting soon--i.e. the new Young Gunz section, featuring up and comers in the area that I've noticed. There will be two coming out over the course of two weeks, both of which are done.

Anyway, thats the lo-down. I'll be going back to Grandview with Josh White for a 3rd time tomorrow afternoon to put the finishing touches on his special edition blog minute. Love that dude, so good. Look for that tomorrow night into Thursday if all goes as planned!

So here, the new OP edit, OP10. The lights are on as of last Tuesday. Go enjoy like we all did (and do every night).

New Round of Blog Minutes...

On deck! Went out on Saturday morning before it got god-awful hot with Josh White to Grandview and finished Part 1 of 2 for his blog minute. His will actually be a special edition type Blog Minute. I'd say more along the lines of a "Recruit" on the Berrics. Full Grandview part to a song and everything. Judging by the first part of it, this will be one to top other Blog Minutes.

Other than that, just keeping steady with filming for the Studio video. I finished a rough cut of the official/un-official promo for the video. All that's needed now is a name! So look for that promo to drop here in the next few weeks.

Is anyone other than me SO FUCKING READY for these 90+ degree days to be over with? I don't know how much more of it I can take. But, you gotta do what you gotta do!

So, what did we learn from my update? Look forward to Josh's Grandview montage next weekend, and the official Studio promo in the next few weeks. I have some other goodies in store in the interim period.

Zero Demo and some shiiiit

Hey dudes. Sorry its been a hot minute-I've been working on some other shit and not really doing too much park-ish filming. Tony Schwintyenberg was right when he asked, "Not a whole lot on blogspot...Studio video??" Lots of progress lately-all the dudes are handling. Some more than others (coughschrocksuckscough). But in any event, shits going down. So maybe I'll put some throwaway type shit up on this bitch.

In more recent news, some fellas from Zero made KC as a stop on their summer filming trip and stopped by OP to hang out.

Dog Days of Summer

These 90+ degree days have been wearing on me. Just standing outside sucks the energy and motivation straight out of me. Skating has now become a chore. Even filming sucks. These clips were from last weekend. It had been raining on and off all day, and the sun finally came out. With that rain came so much humidity it was barely tolerable. My shirt was instantly soaked. I'm tired of Kansas' summer already-all over again. Can't wait to be in Milwaukee for the 4th of July weekend!

We started Josh's blog minute at Grandview and only came up with the first warm up clip before it started pouring. The new Lees Summit park is my new favorite worst park. You won't be seeing me there again unless I have to. But Josh and Kevin killed it!

A Day With SkatePerception's Finest

Well, the video explains itself, but I picked up Steve LaClair-owner and runner of the top skate Film/Photo website/forum from KCI, and we met up with Tim Melonakis, Dave Carulli, and Matt Brown-all established homies from SP. Clinton helped me out while I was driving, as you can see.

We barged some parks and had an epic day. Skate cameos include Clinton, DeFreece, and Spencer White (Dave filmed all of my clips with his camera, so I'm not in it, haha).

Anyway, enjoy!

KCVM Penn Valley 'Tage

This was supposed to be the "Featured Park" montage for KCVM, but as you can already tell, Drew and I both got caught up in other things and blew it on that. Anyway, this is all from about this time last year-within a month at least. All old, all filmed with my old 2100, minus two clips. I thought this tage was sick at the time, then I filmed A-Smith's and Josh Crane's blog minutes! Haha. Anyway, enjoy this oldie from last year, it had to go.

As of yesterday, C-Hodge managed to get a couple bowl runs in at Penn Valley before the Cinco de Mayo party started. Filmed this in a rush before the park became overwhelmingly crowded for the BBQ. Look for another blog from me on the Studio site itself, with herra more montages and video clips--street and park alike. Also, I'll be working on another Studio video promo as well. Oh oh oh and a Welcome to the Team Weston type shit. Should be sick!

Special Street Edition Blog Minute-David Thurn

If you don't know who David Thurn is, well, most people may not know who he is. But if you don't, you need to! Underground tech maniac, skate ninja, and skate dancer. Dude just looks too natural on a board, and Slabs is his playground. When he approached me with the idea to do his blog minute at Slabs, I was totally down and psyched. Something new and fresh, and I don't think he could have handled a better one at any skatepark, anywhere. He's also filming a part for another local video coming out later this year by a homie of mine, Tyler Noah. Just type in David Thurn on PooTube and see how long this dudes been teching around KC, and even Seattle. Enjoy!

Friends Throwaway

Got super bored, and had a bunch of friends footage from the last year and a half collecting dust in my hard drives. 3/4 are clips from the old vx2100, and the last 1/4 are good ones with my new vx1000. This is all footage from everyone who is NOT on the Studio team, and shit that I won't use in the friends section of the Studio video, or anything for that matter. I still have a shit ton of older, unused friends footage, so maybe if I get this bored again, I'll throw together Part 2. But in the meantime, look forward to the Studio video!

If Bryan loved doing anything, it was skating OP for hours on end. So in his honor, we at Studio Skate Supply are putting on a memorial skate jam BBQ for him on Sunday, March 29th. Hot dogs hit the grill at 4, but come out whenever you can to shred in his honor. I'd also encourage you guys to attend his formal memorial on Saturday the 28th at 2pm at Hillcrest Covenant church.

Come and skate! Or just hang out! Free food!

Shredding for Bryan

Bryan's funeral was today, and it was one of the worst and hardest days of my life. It's hard to talk about and I don't want to say much, but I will miss him so much; I do everyday. Please try and make it to his memorial on Saturday, March 28th at 2pm at Hillcrest Covenant Church. I will be playing a video I made for Bryan-you won't want to miss out.

On another note, the day of Bryan's passing was also one of the hardest days of my (and others') life. You might think that skateboarding would be the last thing on everyone's mind. However, its really all we could do. I had plans to skate with Bryan that day-it was so nice out. He would have wanted to skate so bad, and we would have. So it only seemed proper for us to all skate in his name. It was really hard, but all the homies managed to seriously get down for Bryan.

R.I.P. Bryan Barrow-10/27/1991-3/14/2009

As you all may know by now, our good friend Bryan Barrow passed away late last night/early this morning in a car accident.

Bryan was the most caring, compassionate, and down-right gnarly dude I've ever met. He was the most selfless person I have ever been friends with-always caring of others before himself. He was always so down for everything-never complained at a spot, always wanted to skate anything. We just recently put him on Studio, which was going to be the start of everything. The Vans rep was going to be in town on April 1st, and we had planned to go out today to handle a few more things for his tape--which would have landed him on definate Vans flow. But God took him too soon from us.. and I won't be able to finish his sponsor tape for him, and he won't be able to get free shoes every month.. or have his finished part in the Studio video.

My deepest sympathies and compassion go out to the Barrow family. Erik, you too bro.

From me to you Bryan...

Bryan.. you have no idea how I'm feeling. I can't even put to words and express everything.. I miss you so much already bro, we had some damn good times, and you got a lot of amazing footage. Man I'll never forget that bail you took at that track flatbar.. you hit your face so gnarly! Worst bail I've ever filmed! I'd so much rather you have a busted up face right now than gone man.... You were supposed to throw hammers today man!! To get your tape ready for Vans! We had plans and everything... Not a day will go by that I don't think about you. I hope you heard what I said this morning in the hospital room man... Shit popped off at OP for you today-everyone was shredding for you, as will it tomorrow. I know you'll always be with us when we're skating. I love you bro, rest and skate in peace. No one will ever forget you, ever. Everything from here on out is dedicated to you.

Weston Sparks (Shawnee)
Josh White (Grandview)

The Best of the Blog Minutes

Turns out I'm the all time greatest editor and handled fitting Kevin's tricks just fine. Haha.

Anyway, I compiled all of this based on what I think were some of the best tricks from each blog minute. I'm sure some would disagree, but I'm pretty sure there's a ton of really sick shit either way. Just play me in SKATE the next time you see me and we can battle it out.

Coming Soon...

So I just finished editing the Best of the Blog Minutes montage, and realized that I forgot Kevin's tricks. Ballsssssss. So it'll take me a day or so to figure out/go back in and re-edit some shit. It's super sick though, so look forward to that.

Like I mentioned before, I have a shit ton of unused and forgotten park stuff, so in the midst of this shitty winter weather, I'll probably throw a montage together of that stuff.

Other than that, there will be a lot more skateboarding soon. This weekend calls for the 50s on Saturday, so go out and shred!

Looks like old man winter will have his grip on KC for the next week. And you wont catch me filming in 20-some odd degree weather fools. So for lack of better montages, time for another year ago this week.

Drew Paussa is my good homie, and also a fellow filmer (when he's not tearing shit to shreds cause he rips harder than he films!) and is putting out his first video sometime this year featuring all the Northland homies--Josh Conway, Jake Myers, Alex Stimpfel, Zach Doelling, and many more. Its gonna be sick, so you should all get hyped for that, as well as Drew's part in the Studio video, which will be even sicker. So peep his teaser and get stoked!

Street Cred

Not really! Malto's blog minute is indeed featured on the Transworld site, but I guess they forgot to mention that I filmed it. Hopefully by the time you read this it'll be fixed.

Studio Lawrence

Wasted an entire day of getting kicked out of everywhere on campus in Lawrence last Friday, and lo and behold, ended up filming at Lawrence park. I was stoked to meet up with Chafe though! People always wonder how to spell his name...I simply reply B-U-T-T-E-R-Y.

Don't forget to give Dewayne's blog minute a bunch of lovin' too. Wes's will be up sometime this week.

Blog Minute-Sean Malto

The one everyone's been waiting for..

While Sean's been back in KC, he's been greatful enough to handle a blog minute for me. Needless to say it was for sure worth the wait! Thanks Sean!

Look for this to be featured on the Transworld site, Etnies, as well as Crailtap in the next few days or so.

Another virgin blog minute park..Independence! If you don't know who Zach is yet, you should. He rides for Switch, but rarely ever leaves Independence. Look for a lot of his shit in T3 this month. Kid eats rails for breakfast..

On deck for blog minutes...Malto! Already handled. Look for it later on this week.

The new OP montage is almost done too.

Enjoy!
